R&D Tribology Engineering Assistant

Location: Pioneer, Singapore

12 Hour Shift

We are looking for an R&D Tribo Engineering Assistant to support our tribology and reliability testing activities.

The successful candidate will perform hands-on laboratory testing, collect and analyse engineering data, support failure analysis and assist R&D engineers in improving and developing reliability test methodologies.

This position is suitable for engineering diploma holders who are interested in developing practical experience in R&D, reliability testing, laboratory engineering and equipment troubleshooting. Fresh diploma graduates may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Conduct reliability and tribology testing for head/media designs according to established test protocols.

• Collect, compile and analyse test results to support evaluation of head/media performance and reliability.

• Prepare test reports and result summaries for the R&D engineering team.

• Perform basic failure analysis on post-tested head and media samples with guidance from senior engineers and material science laboratories.

• Support improvements to existing test methodologies to meet updated customer and internal requirements.

• Assist in setting up new test fixtures, tools and equipment for reliability and head-media interference testing.

• Perform test equipment setup, calibration and basic troubleshooting.

• Collaborate with R&D engineers and cross-site technical teams on testing activities, technical alignment and knowledge sharing.

• Ensure compliance with ISO standards, safety requirements and Standard Operating Procedures.

• Perform other engineering or laboratory support duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Singapore-recognized Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

• Fresh diploma graduates may apply.

• Basic understanding of engineering principles involving materials, mechanics or electronics.

• Able to follow technical procedures, SOPs and quality standards.

• Comfortable performing hands-on laboratory and testing activities.

• Able to work in a cleanroom environment.

Preferred Skills / Experience

Candidates with any of the following will have an advantage:

• Relevant laboratory, testing or reliability experience.

• Basic understanding of hard disk drive (HDD) or precision-device structures.

• Experience with test equipment setup and troubleshooting.

• Exposure to MATLAB, LabVIEW or Python.

• Knowledge of material interfaces, tribology or reliability-testing concepts.
