Job Description
- Conceptualise and plan editorial content in consultation with Supervising Editors
- Maintain a strong focus on contextualising stories for an Asian audience, in line with CNA’s mandate to help people Understand Asia
- Monitor news wires, global media and online sources to identify top stories in Asia and beyond, ensuring key developments are not missed
- Build rundowns for hourly bulletins, assigning stories to editors and producers
- Edit scripts to maintain a high standard of English and broadcast news writing, adhering to Mediacorp’s editorial standards and the CNA Style Guide
- Write compelling news scripts that integrate graphics (including augmented reality), visuals and soundbites to tell engaging, relevant stories
- Train and develop proficiency in desktop video editing software
- Break news quickly, accurately and responsibly
- React swiftly to developing stories, updating scripts and rundowns to reflect the latest developments
- Demonstrate composure and clear communication in high-pressure, live production environments, taking instructions from supervisors and cascading them to the team
- Work effectively with producers and studio production teams during live newscasts and special programmes, ensuring seamless coordination
- Collaborate closely with other editorial units, including the International Desk, Singapore Desk and Digital Desk
- Stay informed of global news trends, competitor activity and audience insights to enhance editorial output
- Ensure compliance with regulatory policies and guidelines, advising producers and presenters on adherence and best practices
- Learn to leverage AI tools for research, verification and editorial quality checks
Qualifications
- Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies or Arts & Social Sciences
- Minimum seven years’ experience in journalism or a media-related field
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken; second or third languages a plus
- Deep interest in international news and current affairs
- Strong storytelling ability and visual sensibility
- Independent, resourceful, collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Solid understanding of TV news production and editorial workflows
- Interest and knowledge in mobile journalism and emerging reporting technologies
- Proficiency with social media platforms used for newsgathering and audience engagement
- Familiarity with broadcast production codes and regulatory guidelines
- Willingness to work irregular shifts, including weekends and public holidays
