Job Description – Nutrition & Food Science (NFS)Assistant
Location: Choa Chu Kang , Singapore
Contract Period: 1 January 2027 – 31 December 2027
Position Overview
The Nutrition & Food Science (NFS) Assistant supports the school's Nutrition & Food Science Department by ensuring the food laboratories and cookery rooms are well-maintained, clean, safe, and adequately prepared for practical lessons. The role involves assisting teachers with lesson preparation, maintaining food supplies, and ensuring a hygienic learning environment for students.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory & Kitchen Preparation
- Prepare food ingredients and materials required for Nutrition & Food Science practical lessons.
- Assist teachers with food preparation, including measuring, weighing, portioning, cutting, mincing, and organising ingredients.
- Set up equipment, utensils, and teaching materials before practical lessons.
Cleaning & Hygiene
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of cookery rooms, food laboratories, and preparation areas.
- Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, sinks, workbenches, tables, and food preparation surfaces.
- Sweep and mop floors after practical sessions.
- Dispose of rubbish and food waste according to the school's hygiene and safety procedures.
- Ensure all equipment is cleaned and stored properly after use.
Inventory & Stock Management
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of food ingredients, consumables, and kitchen supplies.
- Check expiry dates and ensure proper storage of ingredients.
- Report low stock levels and assist with inventory records.
- Organise and maintain storerooms and refrigerators in a neat and orderly condition.
Equipment Maintenance
- Ensure kitchen appliances and equipment are clean and in good working condition.
- Report damaged or faulty equipment promptly to the supervising teacher.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and organised workplace.
General Administrative & Operational Support
- Support teachers during practical lessons where required.
- Assist in preparing teaching materials and classroom resources.
- Comply with workplace safety, food hygiene, and school regulations.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the School Supervisors, Head of Department, or School Leaders.
Working Hours
- Monday to Thursday: 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM (inclusive of a 1-hour lunch break)
- Friday: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM (inclusive of a 1-hour lunch break)
- No work on Saturdays, Sundays, and Gazetted Public Holidays.
- Working hours may be adjusted to meet the operational requirements of the school.
Preferred Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum GCE N-Level, O-Level, NITEC, Higher NITEC, or equivalent.
- Experience in kitchen operations, food preparation, laboratory support, catering, or school environments is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safe food handling practices.
- Able to perform manual tasks, including lifting, cleaning, and standing for extended periods.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Responsible, dependable, and able to work independently as well as in a team.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Physically fit to perform cleaning and food preparation duties.
