Marine Superintendent

Roles & Responsibilities

The Assistant Marine Superintendent is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of assigned vessels and maintaining compliance with all applicable international maritime regulations and industry standards. The role supports the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Company's Integrated Management System (IMS), while promoting a strong culture of safety, quality, environmental protection, and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

• Ensure vessels comply with all statutory, flag state, class, port state, and company requirements, including the International Safety Management (ISM) Code, International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), and other relevant maritime regulations.
• Assist in the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the Integrated Management System (IMS).
• Conduct scheduled and unscheduled vessel inspections, internal audits, and compliance verification activities both onboard and ashore.
• Perform pre-vetting inspections and coordinate follow-up actions with vessel crews, oil majors, charterers, owners, and other stakeholders.
• Monitor vessel compliance with the Company's Health, Safety, Security, Environmental, and Quality (HSSEQ) management system.
• Review reports, identify non-conformities, determine root causes, and ensure timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
• Support the Company's risk management framework through risk assessments, incident investigations, and continuous monitoring of operational risks.
• Provide professional guidance and technical support to Masters and vessel officers on navigational, safety, operational, and regulatory matters.
• Coordinate and monitor Planned Maintenance System (PMS), repair works, dry-docking, and maintenance activities to ensure vessel reliability and regulatory compliance.
• Monitor vessel operational performance and prepare periodic performance review and follow-up reports.
• Organise and facilitate monthly safety meetings, monitor near-miss reporting, and review Master's management reports.
• Conduct emergency preparedness training, contingency planning, drills, and exercises both onboard and in the office.
• Brief vessel personnel on company policies, procedures, documentation, and regulatory updates.
• Conduct performance appraisals for Officers and Engineers and support crew development initiatives.
• Perform the duties of Alternate Designated Person Ashore (ADPA) and Alternate Company Security Officer (ACSO) for assigned vessels, as required.
• Promote continuous improvement and foster a proactive safety culture throughout the fleet.

• Minimum 3–5 years of seagoing experience, preferably on product or chemical tankers.
• Certificate of Competency (CoC) Class 2 or Class 3.
• Alternatively, at least two years of shore-based experience as a Marine Superintendent or Assistant Marine Superintendent managing product or chemical tankers.
• Certified ISM and ISPS Internal Auditor.
• Knowledge and practical experience in:Root Cause Analysis and Incident InvestigationRisk Assessment and Risk ManagementCrisis Management and Media HandlingPlanned Maintenance Systems (PMS)Vessel Repairs and Dry-DockingMarine Operations and Regulatory Compliance
• Sound knowledge of international maritime conventions and regulations, including ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, and MLC.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 (formerly OHSAS 18001) management systems is an advantage.
• Experience in dry-docking, newbuilding supervision, vessel delivery, or shipyard projects will be an added advantage.
• Strong integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and effectively engage with shipboard and shore-based personnel.
