Description and Requirements

About the Role

Lenovo is seeking an exceptional Director, AI Research to establish and lead its Singapore AI Lab as part of the global Qira AI organization. Reporting to the Executive Director of AI Engineering, this leader will define the research vision, build a high performing AI research team, and drive the development of next generation AI technologies that power Lenovo’s Personal AI and Enterprise AI platforms.

The role combines research leadership, technical excellence, and organizational building to transform cutting edge AI innovations into globally deployed products.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the Singapore AI Lab and define the long term AI research strategy aligned with Lenovo’s global AI vision.

Build and lead a team of AI Research Scientists and AI Engineers specializing in large language models, multimodal AI, agentic AI, reasoning, knowledge systems, and on device AI.

Drive fundamental and applied research in areas including:

• Agentic AI
• User World Models
• AI Memory Systems
• Personal AI
• Enterprise AI
• Multimodal AI
• AI Safety and Responsible AI
• Model Optimization and On Device AI

Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Design, and Research teams to transition research into commercial products.

Lead collaborations with universities, research institutes, startups, and strategic partners across Singapore and globally.

Establish a strong innovation culture that delivers patents, publications, and proprietary AI technologies.

Represent Lenovo in the global AI research community through conferences, partnerships, and technical leadership.

Qualifications

PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.

12+ years of experience in AI or machine learning research, including experience leading high performing research teams.

Deep expertise in one or more of the following:

• Large Language Models
• Multimodal AI
• Reinforcement Learning
• Agentic AI
• AI Reasoning
• Knowledge Graphs
• Machine Learning Systems
• Distributed AI Infrastructure

Strong track record of delivering AI technologies from research into production.

Experience building and scaling AI organizations in global environments.

Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience at leading AI organizations such as OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Anthropic, Microsoft AI, Meta FAIR, NVIDIA, Apple, or equivalent.

Strong publication or patent record in artificial intelligence.

Experience leading globally distributed research organizations.

Experience building AI platforms used by millions of users.

Success Measures

Within three years, the Director will have:

• Built a world class AI Research organization in Singapore.
• Delivered foundational technologies including User World Models, Personal AI, and Enterprise AI capabilities.
• Produced proprietary AI intellectual property and patents.
• Successfully commercialized research into Lenovo’s global Qira platform.
• Established Singapore as Lenovo’s strategic global AI research and innovation hub.
