Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for a responsible and organised Food Laboratory Assistant to support the school's Food & Nutrition (F&N) laboratory operations. The successful candidate will assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised food laboratory while supporting practical lessons and school programmes.

Daily Food Laboratory Operations

• Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the Food Laboratories, including workstations, sinks, floors, countertops, and food preparation areas.

• Clean and maintain kitchen appliances, including ovens, stoves, refrigerators, hot water dispensers, and other food laboratory equipment.

• Ensure all cooking utensils, equipment, and tools are properly cleaned, organised, and stored after each practical lesson.

• Prepare ingredients and raw food materials for practical lessons, including washing, cutting, portioning, and packing according to lesson requirements.

• Monitor food inventory and storage areas, ensuring ingredients are stored safely and properly labelled.

• Inform the Food Lab Manager or NFS Unit Coordinator when food supplies or ingredients require replenishment.

• Ensure all kitchen workstations are properly equipped before practical lessons.

Inventory & Store Management

• Conduct stock checks and inventory control of food ingredients, cooking utensils, kitchen equipment, and consumables.

• Assist in termly stock-taking exercises.

• Monitor expiry dates of food items and remove expired or spoiled ingredients.

• Maintain proper storage and organisation of food laboratory equipment and supplies.

• Assist with labelling and organising equipment, shelves, and storage cabinets.

Laboratory Maintenance

• Support the upkeep of safety signs, instructional posters, and laboratory displays.

• Carry out scheduled deep cleaning of laboratory equipment, workstations, shelves, and storage areas during school holidays and examination periods.

• Perform routine checks to ensure laboratory facilities remain clean, safe, and operational.

School Programme Support

• Support Food & Nutrition practical lessons conducted by teachers.

• Assist with afternoon cooking programmes and enrichment activities.

• Provide logistical support during school events involving the Food Laboratories.

• Perform other duties assigned by the School Leaders, Operations Manager, Food Lab Manager, or NFS Unit Coordinator.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Minimum Secondary School education or equivalent.

• Basic certification in Food Safety, Food Hygiene, or Food Preparation will be an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of relevant working experience in food preparation, culinary operations, food laboratory support, kitchen operations, catering, hospitality, or related fields.

• Experience in inventory or store management is preferred.

Skills

• Knowledge of food preparation and food safety practices.

• Familiarity with kitchen equipment and food laboratory operations.

• Good organisational and housekeeping skills.

• Good communication skills in English.

• Able to work independently and as part of a team.

• Physically fit and able to handle manual tasks.

• Responsible, organised, and detail-oriented.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday

7:30 AM – 3:00 PM

• Inclusive of 1-hour lunch break

• Extended hours may be required on certain days to support school programmes.

Rest Days

• Saturdays

• Sundays

• Gazetted Public Holidays

Service is generally not required during school holidays, except when requested for laboratory maintenance, stock-taking, or school activities.
