Legal Counsel (Maritime and Disputes)

The company trades across the barrel including Crude, Middle distillates, Light distillates, bulk petrochemicals, polyolefin and recently clean energy like LNG, Emission and Biofuels.
Aramco Trading Singapore (ATS) is the largest subsidiary out of the Kingdom and is actively trading within the region and globally across all products since 2018.
The Function
The Legal Team in Singapore support all trading activities within the company. This is a busy and fast paced environment, which represents an excellent opportunity for a midto senior-level lawyer to gain experience in a broad and flexible in-house role. You will be joining a global team of lawyers who can support and assist you where needed. The role is suitable for a qualified lawyer with strong experiencein shipping (contentious, non-contentious) and commercial contracts (preferably sale and purchase commodity contracts).
Job purpose: To manage maritime incidents, shipping disputes and support ATS’s team of Charterers
Other responsibilities: General support in cargo disputes, charterparty negotiations and other operational agreements such as storage.
Areas of Growth: The role may involve advising on the following areas, but it is not a requirement to ave prior experience: Sanctions and General Contracts
Key Acountabilities
- Closely overseeing and project managingshipping incidents, shipping disputes (including demurrage) and cargo disputes, including with the support of external counsel.
- Keeping stakeholders updated with latestdisputes and any arbitration.
- If required, contract reviews and gap analysisof General Terms and Conditions / charter parties.
- Sanctions matter
- Perform functional review of charterparties
- Advising on insurance / P&I Club matters
- Working closely with legal counsel inSingapore, Saudi Arabia, London and UAE to ensure that Aramco Trading’s shipping and dispute risks are anticipated and mitigated.
- Reporting on legal matters to Management in Singapore and Saudi Arabia.
- Support and advise ATS team of Demurrage Analysts
Requirements
- Excellent spoken and written English is essential.
- Strong academic background from a leading university.
- Minimum ten years PQE experience in maritime work. Law firm experience is essential.
- Experience working in an international environment would be a bonus.
- Candidates with corporate and/or trade experience will be preferred.
- Strong interest in business and industry
- Understanding of Chinese law is a bonus
Education/Professionalqualification:
- Law degree
- Common law qualified lawyer
- Admission to the bar in Singapore
